What

Func(X) [“fuhngk – eks”] perform, write & record in the UK and France. Tim X leads an anonymous group, including programmers, producers, session & classical musicians.

Func(X) explores a repeatable, looping process which is applied to different subjects; “func” is the function we execute on “X”, the object or subject.

“X” could be a lyric, an idea, a motif, a tone, a loop or an effect, referenced anywhere in the project so it works as a whole; a single concept, start to finish. The music encodes the messages, the lyrics encode the concepts.

Func(X) has planned this 3 EP, 3 album project in detail, calling it: “everything_is_code”.

We’re exploring technology, hypernormalisation, dehumanisation, quantum computing, strange loops and ultimately hope.

Influences? Too many. Dvorak, Godel, Escher, Bach, Hofstadter, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, Smyslov and Bowman and Dr Chandra. Meshuggah, Metallica, Jeff Lynne, Tom Waits, Black Midi.

Who

Tim X drives it. Noise architect. Sound engineer.

Tom, Martyn & John are drummers & percussionists you’ve seen on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury.

Rachel & Lucy play a variety of instruments, sometimes for the Hallé.

Yes, it’s anonymous. No, decisions are not collective.

kwargs 1” was released our debut EP and the first release in the everything_is_code project.

Func(X) music often suits film, TV or games. “Always Observed, Never Seen” and “New York by Rawtenstall” are good examples.

4 tracks were quietly released earlier in ’22 as test, or ‘alpha’ versions and have now been deleted.
